More and more beauty brands are embracing the use of healthier organic ingredients in the development of their products, welcoming us to the era of “Green Beauty”
The very moment we become mothers we start thinking more consciously about what we eat, what products we use and expose our children to. It is equally important to take the same approach when it comes to beauty products; we need to be cautious about what we are putting on our skin, especially when breastfeeding.
The habits of buying and incorporating beauty products into our routines without knowing their components need to be gone. The truth is that most of the products we use daily are made of “dirty ingredients” that are proven to be harmful to our skin. But don’t panic! The good news is that more and more beauty brands are embracing the use of healthier organic ingredients in the development of their products, welcoming us to the era of “Green Beauty”
This being said, you don’t have to throw out each and every makeup and skin care product that is in your vanity. However, I do recommend to slowly, one product at a time, start looking at labels and replacing those products for greener alternatives in order to achieve a healthier balance in our beauty routines. Examples of ingredients that we should avoid are fragrances, parabens and petrochemicals. These can be found in cosmetics, perfumes, hair, skin and nail products, and are proven to be irritating, inflammatory, and have been linked to be carcinogenic. Furthermore, some of these components might be harmful to our babies in case of direct contact with it. Other ingredients to be in the lookout for are BHA, Dimethicone, Polyethylene/PEGs, DEA, and sodium lauryl sulfate.
Tip: Take more into consideration brands that claim to be clean, organic and botanical. Some of my personal favorites are Bite Beauty, Lawless and Juice Beauty.
Tip: Look for products that are labeled non-comedogenic, this means that the product is made without a long list of pore-clogging ingredients that our skin doesn’t need.
Tip: If you enjoy your products having a scent, opt for products that are made of natural sources of fragrance like coconut, shea, cucumber, and mango.
