You can make it through an entire month without a blow dryer!
I love hot summer days, especially if I can be poolside or at the beach. With the heat and humidity outside I like to let my hair air dry most days and skip the hot tools. Not only will your mornings be quicker, but letting your hair air dry and flow freely without the added heat of your styling tools will keep you cool and your hair healthy. If you’re new at this whole air dry styling technique, here are some useful tips!
Air drying doesn’t just mean stepping out of the shower, brushing and let’s go! You’ll still want to apply product that helps set your hair, reduce frizz, tame your locks or add volume once your hair is dry, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. Find a product line that you love, then invest in some heat-less styling products. Apply a small amount of product to your hair when damp and distribute evenly from root to tip. My personal favorites are Monat’s Air Dry Cream, Curl Cream and Sculpting Taffy.
To achieve the best air-drying results, I recommend styling your hair after applying your products. An example would be twirling your hair into a tight bun when damp then releasing the bun when your hair is dry and finger-comb through lightly. You could also braid your hair while damp then release once dry for a fun beachy wave. Another look would be to twirl sections of your hair and let it air dry until it naturally releases. Try not to touch your hair until it completely dries, then spray a little hair spray or texturizing spray.
A few other summer hair tips are to find a hair care line that has a UV absorber, add in a clarifying shampoo to your regime after days by the pool or the beach to help cleanse environmental debris and fight the green color blondes often caused by chlorine. I also find my hair picks up so much more in the summer as I am outside a lot and often drive with the window down. I love to use a detangler and leave it in before a swim, helping to lock in hydration and making it easier to brush through after a nice cool dip in the water.
Here are a few of my favorite products from Monat.
Refinish Control Hairspray
TousledTexturizing Mist
Restyle Instant Sculpting Taffy
